    Superb

Fantastic location, very peaceful in beautiful countryside, just what we were looking for. Lots of birds in the grounds including a pair of Buzzards. Friendly staff and excellent food. Mum and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Our room was very spacious and comfortable with only one minor irritation. The shower could not be used with the head fixed to the holder on the wall but the water was hot with good pressure.

location was very good. Staff very friendly. Very much in need of complete interior refurbishment.

interior decoration and furnishing very poor.

    Fabulous

Good friendly staff who were very willing to help on any questions. Meals were piping hot and freshly made and there was plenty of variety. Large portions would be an understatement.

Having been a local lad many moons ago and having been to a wedding there years ago I was disappointed to see that although the rooms were clean the decor is in real need of an upgrade. The plumbing also needs looking at as the hot water was intermittent and the water pressure is very low. I would not let that put me off booking agin though.

The two members of staff we encountered were fairly good but seemed stretched.

The hotel seems a bit "tired". There were also some horrible smells in certain places.

    Breakfast and Nice Room

When you went into the hotel and its corridors it smelt! The room didbt smell though.

    Superb

The food was excellent, much above a normal hotel dining room, yet hardly expensive. All dishes were good including delicious poached haddock, but the stuffed pork sliced thickly and served with two apple fritters was particularly memorable, as was the haggis served with my traditional Scottish breakfast the following morning. A friend joined me for Sunday lunch and expressed similar sentiments.

The pressure in the hot water system seemed to vary, causing the shower temperature to zoom up and down as (presumably) other guests switched on and off. A thermostatic shower control would have prevented me having to leap out of the way rather suddenly.

    The breakfast, staff, location.

Hotel in need of redecorating and refurbishment. The shower room was very old and shabby.

    Exceptional

Very welcoming and helpful. We used it as a centre for touring visiting Historic Scotland hidden properties between Dumfries and Mull of Galloway. The appetising breakfast in the dining room was always quickly served and was as varied as anyone could ask. We chose to have our evening meal in the residents bar and it had a good choice of menu and a selection of 'specials'. The staff were cheerful and helpful and we thoroughly enjoyed our visit

It's hardly a complaint, but one morning the hot water stopped whilst I was soaped-up and under the shower - apparently too many people were running baths or showers at the same time and we were at the end of the supply - such are the joys of country house plumbing !

    Good

The food served is excellent, good choice and variety ,all prepared in the hotel. Bedrooms need an overhaul, although the beds were clean and comfortable.

    Worn bedrooms!!

    Fabulous

The situation of the hotel was great lovely countryside all around. The staff were very friendy and helpful and the food was excellent.

The hotel was a bit outdated and the room needed a bit attention but it was clean.

    Exceptional

Helpfulness and friendliness of the staff, the tranquillity of the location and position from the town centre.

    Exceptional

The piece and quiet with views over open country side with woodland to the sides and rear. Conveniently positioned for the coast and the hills. The service was excellent. My highlight was starting the day with breafast by the huge log fire with spring sunshine streaming through the windows.

    Exceptional

Rural location but near a town. Nice building.

Leak at top of window was dripping. Was reported but no action taken.

    Exceptional

Very friendly and helpful staff. Excellent Location. Comfortable room with wonderful views (room 10). Great Food. Great bar.

The hook on the back of the ensuite shower room door was falling off. Toilet rolls weren't replenished. Entrance porch & receptionists area was very tired and gave a wrong first impression of the hotel. There seemed to be a strong smell of stale cigarrette smoke in the corridor where our room was.
